Frequently asked questions
Can I unlock a locked tag?
No. Locking is permanent by design of the NFC chip. The tag can still be read but no longer changed.
I forgot a tag’s password. Can it be recovered?
No. The password isn’t stored anywhere, including on your phone or with us. The tag can still be read, but its content can no longer be changed.
The tag isn’t detected. What should I try?
Hold the top edge of the iPhone against the tag and move it slowly, remove thick or metal cases, and keep the tag away from metal (use anti-metal tags on metal). If a write fails, the tag may be locked, password-protected, or too small for the content.
Can NFC42 read bank cards or transit cards?
No. Bank, transit and building access cards are protected by their issuers and cannot be read or written.
